Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our services, treatments, and procedures

Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist at MapleDerm?

Yes, a doctor's referral is required for all medical consultations. This includes appointments for skin cancers, mole or lesion checks, cysts, lipomas, acne, rosacea, psoriasis, warts, melasma, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), scars, and other skin conditions.

However, no referral is needed for cosmetic procedures like Botox, fillers, and other cosmetic treatments. You can contact us directly to book these types of appointments.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

For your first appointment, please bring:

  • Your health card
  • A list of all current medications (including topical creams and ointments)
  • Previous dermatology records (if available)

For cosmetic consultations, bringing photos of your desired results can be helpful for discussion with your dermatologist.

Does OHIP cover dermatology treatments?

OHIP covers medically necessary dermatology consultations and treatments with a valid referral from your doctor. However, cosmetic procedures such as Botox, fillers, laser treatments, and aesthetic services are not covered by OHIP.

During your consultation, your dermatologist will clearly explain which treatments are covered by OHIP and which are considered cosmetic. We'll always provide you with pricing information for any non-covered services before proceeding.

What cosmetic treatments do you offer?

We offer a comprehensive range of cosmetic dermatology services, including:

  • Neuromodulators (Botox®, Dysport®, etc.)
  • Dermal fillers
  • Laser treatments for skin rejuvenation
  • Chemical peels
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Medical-grade skincare treatments
  • Scar revision
  • Treatment for hyperpigmentation

During your consultation, our dermatologists will recommend the most appropriate treatments based on your skin type, concerns, and aesthetic goals.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling of appointments. Late cancellations or missed appointments may result in a cancellation fee.

We understand that emergencies occur, and we handle these situations on a case-by-case basis. Please contact our office as soon as possible if you need to make changes to your scheduled appointment.
